Construction projects in densely populated urban environments present unique technical and logistical challenges. At the proposed Youth Hostel Development at Hollywood Road, Sheung Wan, Lermond Engineering Limited was responsible for undertaking foundation, pile cap, and excavation and lateral support (ELS) works within a highly constrained site immediately adjacent to the Grade I Historic Man Mo Temple.
The project involved the construction of five 2.5-metre diameter bored piles founded on Grade III rock, together with excavation, lateral support, and associated substructure works. Throughout the project, special attention was given to vibration control, monitoring requirements, and stakeholder coordination to safeguard surrounding properties and heritage structures.
Despite challenging site conditions, heavy pedestrian traffic, and complex logistics arrangements along Hollywood Road, the project was completed through careful planning, rigorous quality control, and professional construction management. This achievement reflects Lermond's capability in delivering technically demanding foundation projects in sensitive urban environments.
